for those of us who did not attend the epic ride for various reasons, can someone tell us about the epic? I know the weather was perfect for Nov. in Va. so details, details. I enjoyed my camping trip at Pocahontas and the early morning ride there as well as taking my wife and youngest daughter riding later. I saw a crap load of bikes coming in today. was that part of the epic? even saw a couple of camp sites with trek fuel, etc. type bikes. were they a part too? I saw 3 guys going down the camp ground road heading for the old mill trail as i was coming up on an intersection this AM. again I wonder were they part? how many people rode?any injuries? how were the trails?etc. etc. :fback: :thanku:

Good Morning all,
First off, I had a blast this weekend! clap.gif
The ride was better than I had thought, even though I was not sure what to expect.
First off, despite the threat of gloomy weather, it held off for the most part and our turnout was great.
Some guys from the NOVA-MORE came down to ride with us, and plenty of local riders as well as a healthy showing of our own Richmond-MORE group.

This is what mt biking is all about. Hanging out, riding, talking bikes and just having a plain old good time. cheers.gif

All the rides went off without a hitch and we had only one mechanical the whole time (To my knowledge) which is just awesome when you do 3 different rides with about 50 different riders.
Although I broke then lost my new cyclometer, and lost my tail-light yesterday. banghead.gif

Thanks to all that helped out with the event, and I want to say thanks to some of the local non-MORE members SnR & SSG that I roped into leading some of the groups yesterday at Poor Farm & Woody for helping out on the B'milk ride. :thanku:

Some of the totals broken down:
Total different riders: 48 (I think a few never signed in also)
6 from M.O.R.E.
22 from Richmond-M.O.R.E.
20 Local Guests.

Total riders for each park:
Poor Farm = 38
Buttermilk = 23
Pocahontas = 14

Total riders that did all 3 rides: 9
Total riders that did 2 rides: 17

Total mileage for all 3 rides: 31 avg.

And the Legend's Dinner turnout: 17
Avg beer consumed: 2.5 :cheers3: Umm, Chocolate Stout!
Ps. Thanks to MORE for buying a round of Appetizers for the group.
Also, During Dinner Richmond-MORE was presented with an IMBA Trail Care
Maintenace Kit to help kick-start our tool shed, plus each trail liaison will be presented an IMBA trail building book valued at $40.00.

In my book, that was a great turnout, especially considering some of the early afternoon showers we recieved. rain.gif

Poor Farm was a great ride, a little damp and misty, but the trails were really nice except for some slippery roots. Our ride was about 2 hours.

Buttermilk turned out to be more challanging because it was really slimy from the light spotty rain. We had some good riding though and Forest Hill is looking real good! Ride time was near 2.5 hours.

Pocahontas was dry, rain never touched there yesterday so the trails were pristine and the air temp was low 60's! The ride started around 8:15pm finished around 11:30pm

On Sunday, we met up for one more ride at Pocahontas, about 8 of us rode the toured the NOVE-M.O.R.E. guys on a day run. Totalling about 8mls.
Hey we are old and were beat. ;)

Thanks again for all that turned out for the event, I hope everyone enjoyed it.
I also want to say that these type of events are something that we intend to do more frequently and that my hopes are people will join the new Richmond-M.O.R.E. Chapter to help make each successive event that much more memorable and help us better and preserve local mt biking for everyone. clap.gif

I was a part time epic rider...but still had a blast especially meeting people and riding. I rode the poor farm stage on saturday, how cool was that to see 40 riders of all levels signing up and breaking off into fast, med and social groups. I went down and served as a leaf plow to uncover the slippery root that took my front wheel out and me down. No biggie.

I then enjoyed lunch at Ashland Coffee and Tea with a good size group.

I returned to the trails on Sunday at Camp Hilbert...a much smaller crowd...I think we were 7. The trails were leaf covered but lots of fun. We rode 1 lap and a little more. The moguls and whoops were especially fun.

Thanks to Kevin and Susan the ride leaders in the two groups I was part of.

Hope there will be more rides through the winter.

Jim

Did someone say photos???? I was one of the NOVA people who did all three rides on Saturday. I didn't take the camera to Buttermilk because of the threat of rain. The rides were great, as was the company and food.

Thanks to all that made this day happen.

Talk to you soon.

Thanks for the good work I had a blast!!!
I "only" got to ride poor farm and got a good 10 miles in.
I was worried about you guys out on butter milk as it was raining at my house nearby for most of the afternoon.

Thanks again!
