Hey all
There is a Hanover Parks master plan update meeting this coming Monday Dec 14th at the new Mechanicsville Library at 7461 Sherwood Crossing Place. This is advertised as Hanover County Resident's opportunity to give their opinions on the plan. So calling all Hanover Resident MTBS.....this is our opportunity to ask them to revisit the idea of tearing down the flats......
If any non-residents have any good ideas on how best to express our views I am happy to listen to any good advice.....
Thanks
Oh yeah, it is at 7 pm

I would add that many people visit Ashland anually, many of which are MTB ers. I like to patron the local restaurants, café’s, Coffee shop when I get the munchies. Tearing out the flats will make voyaging from Powhatan to Hanover less appealing.
The downside to that argument is the fields of dreams bring larger crowds.

I'm not a Hanover County resident, and am not familiar with the issue. What exactly are we talking about when they say they are planning to "tear down the flats"?
If you have some time to read: http://cyclingcentra...p...t=0&start=0
There is some good discussion of the history of Poor Farm here.
Essentially, the flats are being turned into football fields.

Bump.
Also, this is not just about Poor Farm - it is long term planning for all of Hanover... think ahead!
The previous longterm master planning was done about 13 years ago (hence a little late to be complaining about Poor Farm - after the flags are set) - but now is a good time to voice input for future "development" of all parks in Hanover.
The near future of Poor Farm is to clear some of the "flats" area for the 4 multi-use fields, one of which will be lighted. The 4-section softball field area will NOT be built at this time (though I am unsure if it will be cleared or not... more later). Also, there will be at least a 100 foot naturalized buffer around the edge of the new fields - we can keep trails in this buffer area (near the fire-training school road).

How about voicing a compromise of letting the flats go, but given more land area to build new trail?
(Better to get something than nothing)

I mean more space around the current trail system....is there any land open?
I know there is some private property to the south that is off limits...but does it border all around?
