Josh,
. Glad you got your bike back. I had read this post friday afternoon, and was the girl who called you from BLVD and Cary Street . (on my way to meet the rest of the Luna Chix for a ride leaving from crossroads coffee). It was pretty ironic because I ended up riding the Belle Isle loop and had seen bunch of cop cars and an ambulance as I was going back over the bridge to buttermilk. Ofcourse my first thought was they caught another rapest or something, but I am really glad it was the peice of scum that stole your bike!

Well, I thank you for making that call because I'm not sure the police would have moved in as they did if I did not get down there to make a scene and confirm the bike was in fact mine, and who the supsect was they were dealing with.

Nate, the thought of Raub spending some time in the Richmond city jails does bring a smile to my face, let's hope that's where he ends up!

We'll see you all on the trails!

JoshE,

Just excellent that you got your bike back. This story had me absolutely enthralled as it unfolded. Just amazing. Such a great group of folks on here. And what would we do without this site, thanks Jay.

I just emailed Bicycling about this story and attached the link. I hope they read it. It needs to be told! Maybe if others do the same, they'll be compelled to check out the site and read up.

Jill

Richmond City Jail is OLD, crowded, no A/C, hot, dirty, loud, and he'd definitely be in the minority. There's a lot more gang bangin', drug dealin', murderers in Richmond City Jail than in Henrico.

Note to self....

And, wasnt there a big stink about the conditions in city jails? About how the inmates deserved better, and the families were fighting for better living conditions?

Mr. Raub pleaded guilty this morning in Richmond City court and received 12 months behind bars and 2 years probation for the theft of my bike. He has a laundry list of other more substantial charges that will be vetted out in a jury trial. The prosecuting attorney said he will be behind bars for some substantial time after all is said and done.

Case closed. Thought you guys might like to know.

I do have the bike but I'm still working on getting it back to pre-theft mechanical condition. It has some nice battle scars that evidence the time in Raub's hands and the brake pads were ruined after a nice application of WD-40 or some such lubricant to the discs. banghead.gif A couple of the big ring teeth disappeared as well, but that's no biggie. The rear derailer was bent and hasn't been shifting quite right since but with the gracious help of the guys at Rowlett's it's almost back to reliable status.

After all the miles I logged on this bike in the JRPS, which is fairly tough on gear, resulting in minimal evidence of wear I do still wonder what the heck he did with it for the 5 days he was tooling around town on-road? headscratch.gif

All that said, I know I'm extremely lucky (and thankful) to have recovered it.
