Now, Now, hitting a biker with a car is not the answer, thief or not. Hitting them with golf balls is the answer(per pissed off hanover driver)!

Well, no luck today
I heard the BOLO come out on the radio for a suspect on a stolen mountain bike at Devers & Monument. I was at Libbie & Broad when this came out. I hurried down to Patterson hoping to cut the guy off since he was heading in that direction. What I didn't know was that MountainSpider had called it in and was following this guy on his bike. I shot down Patterson and turned onto Pepper waaaayyy too fast. Lo and behold who's about 10 feet in front of me when I turned onto Pepper? Mr. Scumbag... I almost ran over the sleazeball. He swerves around my police car and then stands up out of the saddle and sprints away from me across Patterson. I don't even think he slowed down to cross Patterson. He ducked behind a church and went through the back parking lot and into the alley and possibly through somebody's yard. I lost sight of him after he went through the parking lot because I was still trying to cross Patterson without getting killed.
We had 3 units, not counting myself, my Sergeant, and the plane all looking for this guy. RPD sent a couple units as well. No luck. He disappeared like a ghost.

Well guys, let's give Nate and Ben a big round of applause for their efforts!!
Then again, he seems rather arrogant so he may just keep riding it, we'll see.

Should have used deadly force! Just kidding. I know you would not have risked hitting the bike. Again just kidding.

Actually, when I came screaming around the corner of Patterson and Pepper and saw him RIGHT THERE, the first thought on my mind was "That's a Giant Anthem, DON'T HIT IT..." I could have cared less about the dude riding it.
But we did develop a pretty strong lead on a suspect today, if nothing else... It's probably a guy we're already looking for named Kenneth Raub. He's got 9 warrants on file through RPD and HPD. Burglary, Arson, Grand Larceny of a Firearm, Obstruction of Justice, Probation Violation, Obstruction of Justice w/ Force, Providing False Info to Police, and several other charges. All total, it's 5 felonies and 4 misdemeanors. That's not counting the larceny of Josh's Anthem. A couple weeks ago Officer Rollins (HPD) stopped Mr. Raub and he gave him a false name and ended up getting into a tussle with Rollins. Unfortunately Raub escaped capture then... otherwise Josh's bike would never have been stolen.
Kenneth Burton Raub
White Male
DOB - 3/2/88 Age - 20
5'6" - 140 lbs
Eyes - Hazel
Hair - Dirty Blonde
Rumored to be Homeless right now.
He's considered ARMED by RPD and has a history of resisting arrest and fleeing from the police. Do not approach him if you see him! Since he's on a bike now, he's become extremely difficult to capture.

From an e-mail I received tonight:
"Per Detective Gittman with RPD Arson Squad, Kenneth Raub was taken into custody by RPD officers this evening on Belle Isle. He's at MCV undergoing treatment for some injuries sustained during the arrest."
That's awesome news. Hopefully they can also link the stolen bike to him and charge him for that. Not that it will much matter. He's got so many charges pending, he's going to be locked up for awhile.

We had plans to head to Wintergreen with some friends this weekend, but my gut told me otherwise, so I sent the wife and kid without me. Sure enough I get a call from a nice young sounding female at around 6:15PM that the suspect is heading east on Cary St. on my bike, crossing Blvd. Figured he might be taking in Friday Cheers downtown so I headed that way. As I pulled onto Tredegar St. another call came from a fellow biker on Belle Isle on his ride who was just offered drugs in addition to the purchase of my bike from the suspect. I called 911, informed all the police on duty of the status of the case and who the supsect was and headed across the foot bridge to the island. Once across, I grabbed two uniformed officers, and was approached by the good samaritan who provided the tip. He pointed us in the direction of the suspect and the police took it from there. It was on, they took down the suspect and they took him down hard when he tried to fight back!
I got my bike back, and I have to say, he beat the living sh!t out of it in 5 days time (the brakes don't even work now), but at least I will sleep good tonight knowing it's locked up in my posession and the suspect is enjoying his night in the clink!
To everyone that chipped in to solve this case, I can't express my gratitude. Not only did this guy steal my bike, he had a rap sheet of priors. We all have safer streets as a result of this guy being put behind bars! And I can guarantee you I will be at his court date to ensure he sees the maximum penalty the law allows.
Nate, he had my bike and also gave the officer the combination to the lock that was wrapped around my seatpost, thereby incriminating himself as to having put the lock on my bike and having had the bike in his posession. Sorry for posting this so late but I needed some celebratory suds after the torture this week.
You guys rock!! Score one for the good guys!!
P.S. To the individual that called me from Belle Isle, please PM me if you are on this forum, thanks.
