Anyone needing a working water wheel?

Have a friend who made one but does not need it. Approx 8' diameter. Can be placed in water as is on the stand, or mounted. Spins easily, like a great wheel-set with ceramic bearings. No idea what price is being asked. PM if you know someone that may want it. Pickup is in the Old Church area of Mechanicsville.

I am apparently out of touch these days. I was searching for service parts for all my bikes and stumbled across some service parts that I didn't know I "needed."

RWC has a kit that replaces the DU bushings with needle-bearings, which is being billed as upgrade to the area of the bike since the DU bushings can spin on the frame, etc. It does make sense when I read it, plus is looks damn cool!

Cost compared with DU bushings isn't hateful either. About 50% more, but that includes all hardware, something you don't get with DU bushings.

Anyone using these yet?

Cleat position = power ?

I recently got some shoes, and accidentally installed the cleats more rearward than normal . Really threw my balance off at first, but my legs seemed to like it better (less quad and calf screaming, more ham effort felt) so I left them alone. I have since adjusted to the different equilibrium and plan to leave the cleats where they are, just adjusting the tension for a harder release (several accidental clip-outs with the new position vs. never with the old).

Anyone know the physiological reason for this? My old cleat position was directly over the ball of the foot, and the new one is back of that by the spacing between the screw holes (maybe 1/4"-3/8").

Curious: Sponsor's take on cheating...?

So with the latest law suite against LA, I'm now very curious:

While Sponsors "may" have clauses about how a person or team being sponsored wins, IE: no cheating: Is that really truthful?

Isn't the idea of sponsorship to get your name seen? And "if" the person wins, the sponsor reaps the rewards.

How many sponsors do you think use the clause just to "distance" themselves from cheating, but actually expect winning at all costs?!

And in the case of LA, what "damages" did Lance really inflict on the sponsors at the time of services rendered? None!

Years after removal from the sport, his then association with Postal is in no way affected.

Just saying/asking, no excusing.

Suspended Fat

Most recent project. Added the lefty this past weekend.

Lefty fork was built up by Craig at Mendon Cycles in New York. Great guy who does a lot of Lefty work. He designed the longer offset fork crowns for fat bike tire width. At one time he had a stock of 2007 era lefty externals, upgraded the fork crowns and started putting in 2011 era internals to create brand new fat bike leftys. His stock of new lefty externals is gone but if you supply the externals he can do the rest or he will sell you the longer crowns for a diy. DIY was my plan but this fork popped up on MTBR at a good price so I jumped on it. Time is precious or time is cheap, you pick.

To dial in steering to my preference I put a 4.8 inch tire on the back and a 4 inch tire on the front to steepen the angle a little. Did some other changes like low rise and longer stem and flattened the mary bar profile.

Not being too familiar with a lot of Trails or Routes through the mountains or outside of central Va, I'm asking folks to post info here about a park / trail / route that maybe missing.

Include :Park/Trail/Ride name; Address/Directions; Parking Fees; Knowledge of when to/when not to ride; etc.

Any help would be great! I'm even Ok with places in surrounding states that are worth checking out: IE: W.Va, MD, & NC

Marzocchi Rear Shock Spring Change

I know the usual routine for a rear shock change but this time I have one that is stumping me. Looking for advice.

All the preload is removed from the spring but there is still too much tension to remove the tab and take the spring out. We tried putting preload on to about a half inch of displacement and then put 10 z ties on it. Took the preload of and the zip ties were not stiff enough to hold the spring. The spring on this shock is a stiff 500 inch pound. Tried making a spring compressor from steel all-thread and steel bar stock but since we can only put it on a short section of spring we had no luck. Keeps slipping off.

Anyone have advice? Anyone have a little coil spring compressor that works with a rear bike shock sized coil?

Appreciate help. Thanks!

Tucson, AZ Trail Recommendations?

I'm heading to Tucson for work and will have plenty of time to check out some trails. I even sent my Slash ahead so I won't be limited by any feeble rental bikes while I'm there.

Thanks in advance,

Tubeless for the road wheelset?

Swapping the MTB wheels back over to tubeless got me thinking about doing the same for my 29er road skinnies on the other wheelset. No reason this wouldn't work, with less Stans, right? Gorilla Tape, new stems and 1.5 oz or so of the goopy stuff and I have better flat protection than before....? Inexpensive tires, so assuming they have pretty thick sidewalls and rubber.
